Chris Stussy
A DJ, producer and label boss firmly in the ascendency, Chris Stussy emerged in double quick time with a string of head-turning tracks. But what is more important is that he has continued to back up that early promise. Now a key part of today’s house landscape with a sound that is all his own, Stussy’s rise has taken him firmly into the spotlight as one of the scene’s most exciting names, and the Dutch wonderkid is only just getting started…
A long-standing love of early house, but also raw production and an understanding of jazz, disco and Chicago styles feed into his unique take on the genre. As such, late-night cuts via Kaoz Theory, Moscow, Eastenderz, LOCUS, and PIV, come with bumping drums and a bassline that is superbly slick and supple, while remixes for artists including the one and only Kerri Chandler welcome innovative vocal samples and lush synths which add to the allure of his most seductive and warm grooves.
2020 welcomed a significant milestone as he unveiled his own label, Up The Stuss. A vinyl-driven outlet for Stussy and close friends to release forward-thinking, timeless club-driven productions, the imprint has become a must-visit hub for quality cuts from across the electronic sphere. Home to Stussy’s standout ‘Get Together’ project alongside Delaphine boss S.A.M., plus material from the likes of East End Dubs, Fabe, Locklead, and Janeret, Up The Stuss not only showcases how well-rounded the Dutchman is as a producer, but also his ever-maturing talents as an A&R and label head.
As a DJ, Stussy is just as widely informed and draws on styles to suit the many different settings he plays – often zigzagging from intimate clubs to leading festivals within 24 hours. Main stages at the likes of Awakenings and underground clubs such as Watergate (Berlin), fabric (London), Space (Miami), Fuse (Brussels), Sound (LA), Fabrik (Madrid) and Pacha (Barcelona) all come under his spell in equally memorable ways, with tours of the US, Australia & New Zealand, Asia and South America already in the books… Not to mention regular headline and extended sets across his home city, from Thuishaven and Shelter to The Loft.
Despite being so prolific, the quality levels remain high, and while each new production shows a subtle evolution, they continue to feed into the singular Stussy sound that both DJs and dancers have come to know and love.
